Le poste en détail

ArcelorMittal is the world’s largest steel producer. We use the most innovative technologies to create the steels tomorrow’s world will be made of. Every day over 125,000 of our talented people, located in over 60 countries, push the boundaries of digitalization, and use advanced technologies to create a stronger, faster, and smarter world. To help make this possible, they know they can depend on the support and training that a company of our scope and scale can provide.

Comprising 1,650 researchers spread across 14 Research Centres around the world, our Global R&D team aims to continuously improve the quality of steel and its manufacturing processes. This involves investigating and developing disruptive technologies, reducing the carbon footprint of steel, and optimizing costs while maintaining uncompromising quality. The team's strong multicultural diversity, with over 30 nationalities, offers international experience and makes it possible to meet global needs.

While 90% of total CO2 emissions for steel production are coming from Ironmaking processes, the whole team is driven by ArcelorMittal's objective to reach the carbon neutrality. This objective will go hand in hand with a change in our processes leading to production of new types of by-product (dusts, sludges and slags) additionally to the curent ones. The management of these "new" materials, including internal recycling or external valorization is structural for the implementation of the new processes and their operation.

Your role

Participate and lead research projects in link with by-products recycling and management as well as minimization of environmental emissions including dust, dioxines, CO2.

As research engineer, you will be part of the valorization of dust, sludge and scales generate by our processes. For that, you will deploy a strong methodoly to assess the existing solutions and to develop the not existing ones. Laboratory work, industrial tests, development of process simulations will be part of your responsabiblites as well as:

  • Identify the challenges and blocking points for the valorization of new by-products type
  • Propose, develop innovative solutions or assess external solutions for their full use inside (or outside) of ArcelorMittal group
  • Validate the solutions at lab or industrial scale (build equipment, run tests and coordinate industrial trials, analyze results, validate the mass balance, CO2 emissions....)
  • Participate to the R&D development strategy with R&D stakeholder (Portfolio, sales teams, CTO,...)
  • Participate to transversal activities in safety, environment, quality management,...

Your profile

  • You hold a Master degree or PhD in the field of Chemical engineering, process engineering, chemistry, hydrometallurgy, electrochemistry, pyrometallurgy or by-products treatment and valorization.
  • Experience in R&D applied to industrial context is a plus.
  • You have skills in laboratory, in pilot experimental tools use and development and in simulation.
  • You are advanced in French and in English.
  • You are able to work in a multicultural environment.
  • You are a team player with ability for networking and interacting with R&D and plants people.
  • You are able to propose new solutions. You are innovative and results oriented.

Join us and you will see that your work will help create renewable energy, impact major industries and boost economies. At ArcelorMittal, we'll help you create your world.

Attractive remuneration with stimulating career prospects in which eminent scientists and engineers evolve in a multicultural environment

ArcelorMittal is the world's leading steel and mining company, with a presence in 60 countries and primary steelmaking facilities in 15 countries. Our material is part of the fabric of life. What we produce makes a difference – to individuals, communities, businesses and society. At ArcelorMittal, the safety, health, and wellbeing of our employees are our top priorities. We believe that every accident is avoidable, and it is essential for every employee, from the shop floor to the management committee, to hold this belief.

Our purpose is to produce ever smarter steels that have a positive benefit for people and planet. Steels made using innovative processes which use less energy, emit significantly less carbon and reduce costs. Steels that are cleaner, stronger and reusable. Steels for electric vehicles and renewable energy infrastructure that will support societies as they transform through this century. With steel at our core, our inventive people and an entrepreneurial culture at heart, we will support the world in making that change. This is what we believe it takes to be the steel company of the future.
Within this context, you will be working for Maizières Process research centre located in Maizières-lès-Metz (France) which main mission is to contribute to ArcelorMittal’s production lines competitiveness and sustainability by the development or improvement of innovative processes or processing routes (from Ironmaking to metallic coating). The objectives of the laboratory are answering the needs of our operations (mineral processing, steel upstream operations, steel downstream operations, product quality, transversal issues). We are able to offer new technologies, standard solutions, technical assistances and knowledge building.
