AXA XL seeks an Underwriter for our Commercial Bond unit with a focus on supporting our growth initiative in the Energy Transition sector. This role develops and maintains business relationships with agencies and/or brokers for the purpose of sales growth and distribution expansion within the energy industry, and independently underwrites accounts based on authority level granted to the role and underwriting appetite. Additionally, this colleague will work closely with the Energy Transition Financing Insurance Practice and the global Energy Transition team to refine and evolve our financing-phase client strategy, and act as an industry expert and thought leader to promote AXA XL’s capabilities within the energy sector. What you’ll be doing What will your essential responsibilities include? Underwrite, manage, and service an active portfolio of energy transition projects in line with business unit goals Act as primary access point for brokers and clients seeking Commercial Bond capabilities in support of energy transition projects Acts as a liaison between Commercial Bond and Political Risk/Credit teams to coordinate client solutions for the energy sector Represent AXA XL at key energy financing events and forums, advocating for our value proposition and driving new business opportunities through thought-leadership and market engagement Work with key internal stakeholders including Global Chief Underwriting Office, Legal, and Claims to review and refine market appetite and underwriting guidelines as appropriate to meet evolving market needs Provide insights, best practices, and lessons-learned to drive expansion of financing-phase product offerings and business development to other geographies Monitors market conditions and confirms information gathered within market space Analyzes performance of portfolio as well as individual account performance and develops appropriate action to drive profitable growth based upon the analysis. Works with other members of the team, Specialty, and Property & Casualty to develop and pursue cross selling opportunities. Plans, develops and integrates sales plans to achieve top and bottom-line objectives. Communicates strategic direction and operational plans to external partners. Communicates policies, procedures, and financial budgets that result in attainment of business objectives. Maintain compliance with all internal and external underwriting guidelines and legal requirements. You will report to the Underwriting Manager, Commercial Bond. What you’ll bring We’re looking for someone who has these abilities and skills: Education: Undergraduate degree in business, insurance, or a related field preferred. License/Certification/Designation: Actively pursuing of AFSB, CPCU or other insurance/finance related certification desired. Experience: 3+ years commercial or contract surety or related underwriting experience preferred, with prior experience underwriting these products for the energy transition sector a plus Knowledge: Requires in-depth knowledge of contract and/or commercial surety operations products, procedures and practices. Expertise in bond lines of business, ratings, customer environment and markets. Requires extensive knowledge of bond underwriting best practices, field underwriting operations and day-to-day underwriting operational needs. Familiarity with other company products preferred. Skills/Competencies: Must have excellent verbal and written communication skills in order to disseminate vision of senior leadership and to motivate a large agency force. Ability to set work priorities and to initiate, evaluate and recommend solutions to upper management. Must have the ability to perform duties with independent judgment, with underwriting authority and company underwriting standards. The U.S. base salary range for this position is $87,400 to $170,000 USD. Actual pay will be determined based upon the individual’s skills, experience and location.
