About AXA: AXA is a global leader in insurance and financial services, dedicated to helping customers protect what matters most to them. As the sixth-largest insurance company in the world, we provide a wide range of services, including health, car, home, and business insurance. We support millions of customers worldwide, helping them navigate life's uncertainties with confidence. AXA UK Support Functions look after our three customer-facing business units, providing the infrastructure and expertise to make sure we can be there for our customers. Job overview: Are you a passionate and experienced software engineer with skill in Agentic AI and Machine Learning? We’re on the lookout for a Lead AI Engineer to take the helm of our AI initiatives. You’ll lead the development of cutting-edge solutions centred around large language models and steer our efforts in Agentic AI. If you’re eager to innovate and make a real impact in the world of AI, we’d love to hear from you! Key responsibilities: Lead the design, development, and deployment of AI applications within AXA, ensuring they follow AXA SDLC standards and integrate smoothly with existing systems. Oversee the creation of AI Agents, including Task, Domain, and Orchestrator Agents, using multi-agent frameworks, and guide the team on best practices. Develop key parts of the Agentic AI system, such as memory, guardrails, orchestration, and tools marketplace, to enable advanced AI solutions. Drive the development of AI products and services like Conversational AI, DocAI, Predictive Analytics, and Content Generation, making effective use of AI tools. Work with Data Engineers to design scalable data pipelines and infrastructure to support AI applications. Set and monitor performance metrics for AI systems, Agents, and the overall Agentic AI system to ensure ongoing improvements. Lead and organise cross-functional teams in an Agile way to deliver AI solutions, foster innovation, and share knowledge while staying updated on AI trends. Work arrangements: At AXA we work smart, empowering our people to balance their time between home and the office in a way that works best for them, their team and our customers. You'll work at least two days a week (40%) away from home, moving to three days a week (60%) from December 2026. Away from home means attending the office, visiting clients or attending industry events. We’re also happy to consider flexible working arrangements, which you can discuss with Talent Acquisition. Your skills & experience: Extensive full-stack engineering experience, with practical knowledge of DevOps deployment pipelines and containerisation using Docker and Kubernetes. Proven track record in building cloud-native applications, particularly within Azure environments. Experience in developing GenAI applications, including retrieval-augmented generation (RAG), prompt and context engineering, and integrating large language model (LLM) APIs. Understanding of Agentic AI components and infrastructure, including orchestration, memory management, and evaluation methodologies. Proficiency in programming languages such as Python, SQL, and Node.js, with familiarity with React being a plus. Applied experience in designing scalable, reliable AI solutions in a cloud environment. Ability to optimise development workflows and implement best practices in continuous integration and deployment. As a precondition of employment for this role, you must be eligible and authorised to work in the United Kingdom.
