Job Description:

Department

EDF Trading Markets Limited is the Paris Branch of EDF Trading and provides the base for the European Optimisation business. The optimisation of the EDF SA production assets on the European wholesale markets is conducted on a 24/7 basis by the Trading and Analytical Teams in Paris in close cooperation with the EDF Asset management. Optimisation and proprietary trading are conducted across multiple markets.

The day-ahead power trading activity of EDF Trading for France, Germany, Switzerland and Austria. The intraday power trading activity of EDF Trading across Europe.

Position purpose

As an Intraday Power Trader and at EDF Trading, you will play a crucial role in our dynamic trading team.

We are seeking candidates who possess a unique blend of commercial acumen, analytical prowess, and technical proficiency to make rapid decisions in a fast-paced trading environment. Your responsibilities will encompass a wide range of activities, including trading, model development, strategy enhancement, and mentorship.

We are seeking a candidate who is not only technically skilled but also possesses the determination and discipline to excel in the demanding world of power trading. The ability to make decisive decisions under pressure is crucial for success in this role. Attention to detail is vital in ensuring the accuracy of trades and analyses, and effective communication skills are essential for collaborating with team members and sharing insights.

Furthermore, as an Intraday Power Trader and Analyst at EDF Trading, you will frequently use coding languages like VBA and Python to develop and optimise trading models. Proficiency in these languages and strong IT skills are essential for this position.

While prior knowledge of the gas market is not mandatory, it would be a valuable asset to trade in interconnected energy markets.

Main Responsibilities

  • Intraday Power Trading: Execute power trades across all European markets, including products that can be traded mere minutes before physical power delivery.
  • Model Development: Collaborate with our team to develop and refine trading models using various programming languages, such as Python and VBA.
  • Continuous Improvement: Work closely with analysts to enhance existing trading strategies and models, ensuring we remain at the forefront of the Intraday power market.
  • Portfolio Management: Manage one of the largest portfolios in Europe, leveraging the expertise of our experienced colleagues.
  • Training: Undergo an extensive training program to quickly become proficient in trading.
  • Transition to detailed fundamental market analysis and develop analytical tools for the trading desk.
  • Market Knowledge: Develop a deep understanding of various commodities and power markets across Europe.
  • Mentorship: As you gain expertise, have the opportunity to mentor junior traders and share your knowledge to foster a collaborative team environment.

This role is subject to the Front Office Supervision Procedures and you are required to adhere to them at all times and attest that you have read and understood them on an annual basis.

Experience Required

  • 2-5 years experience in either a commodities trading environment (trading, asset optimisation, risk management or portfolio analysis) or in a closely related working environment.

Technical requirements

  • Bachelor's degree in a relevant field (e.g., Finance, Economics, Engineering, Mathematics, or related disciplines). Advanced degrees are a plus.
  • Strong analytical and quantitative skills, with an ability to make swift decisions in a trading environment.
  • Proficiency in programming languages, particularly VBA and Python, and a strong aptitude for IT tools.
  • Excellent attention to detail, communication skills, and a collaborative team spirit.
  • Motivated, disciplined, and able to thrive in high-pressure situations
  • Knowledge or experience in the gas market is highly appreciated but not mandatory

Hours of Work

  • The position requires flexibility on work hours and days due to market requirements.
  • Shift rota including night and weekend shifts (24/7).
