Description and Requirements About the Role Lenovo Infrastructure Solutions Group (ISG) – Product Assurance is seeking a Server Firmware Test Engineer to drive quality and validation for server firmware solutions. This role focuses on deep firmware validation (BMC / BIOS / UEFI), with strong emphasis on technical depth, problem-solving capability, and customer-facing engagement . Key Responsibilities Lead server firmware validation activities , including BMC, BIOS/UEFI, RAS, and Rack Manager domains Design and review test plans, test cases, and validation strategies based on product specifications and design documentation Execute and manage firmware validation cycles , ensuring coverage, quality, and timely delivery Perform defect analysis, root cause investigation, and debugging , including failure reproduction and resolution tracking Develop strong understanding of firmware-to-hardware interactions , and validate system-level behavior Drive test automation initiatives to improve efficiency and coverage Ensure high-quality deliverables aligned with customer expectations and product requirements Engage directly with internal and external stakeholders, including customers, to communicate technical findings and resolutions Core Competencies 1. Technical Depth & Problem Solving (Critical) Strong understanding of server firmware architecture (BMC / BIOS / UEFI) Ability to explain testing methodology, system behavior, and debugging approach Hands-on experience with: Firmware feature validation (e.g. sensors, Redfish/API, Web UI) Error injection, failure handling, and recovery scenarios Debugging tools and root-cause analysis Demonstrates structured, analytical approach to complex technical problem-solving 2. Analytical Thinking & Debug Capability Ability to go beyond execution and articulate the “why” behind validation scenarios Strong troubleshooting mindset with proven experience in issue isolation and resolution Comfortable handling deep technical discussions and scenarios 3. Stakeholder Management & Communication (Key Differentiator) Ability to engage with technically strong customers and stakeholders Communicates complex technical concepts in a clear and structured manner Demonstrates strong collaboration skills across cross-functional teams Acts as a credible technical representative in customer-facing situations 4. Adaptability & Team Fit Strong learning agility and ability to adapt to new technologies and environments Team-oriented mindset with effective communication and collaboration skills Demonstrates professionalism, ownership, and accountability Qualifications Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Computer Engineering, Electrical Engineering, or related field Minimum 3+ years of experience in server firmware validation/testing (BMC / BIOS / UEFI / RAS / Rack Manager) Experience in: Firmware validation and test case design Debugging and troubleshooting complex issues Test automation frameworks and implementation Experience in firmware development (BIOS/BMC) is a strong advantage Exposure to SIT (System Integration Testing) environments with firmware-related scope is a plus Strong written and verbal communication skills in English Preferred Profile (What We Value) Candidates with deep firmware validation exposure , not just surface-level testing SIT engineers with significant firmware-related scope (≥50%) BIOS/BMC developers with strong system-level understanding interested in validation Candidates who can demonstrate both technical depth AND customer-facing communication capability
