Mission / Purpose:
The Master Data Expert is responsible for ensuring that customs classification and origin information is accurate, timely, consistent, and compliant with Volvo requirements, applicable customs regulations, and related trade rules. This role contributes to improved data quality, strengthened master data governance, and effective end-to-end control of customs master data operations, including relevant broker performance. The position also supports the automation and digitalization of classification processes using automation tools, data management practices, and data lake capabilities. This role will primarily support India import and export classification while interfacing with EU and other international regions as required.

What you will do
At Volvo Group, you will play a critical role in strengthening customs compliance and enabling data-driven trade operations across India and global interfaces. You will:
Own end-to-end customs master data governance (HS classification, Origin, Export Control, FTA) for India imports and exports
Ensure accurate, compliant, and timely classification and origin determination aligned with regulatory and internal requirements
Drive data quality excellence through structured controls, KPI tracking, and master data audits
Lead root-cause analysis and corrective actions for classification deviations, missing data, and compliance gaps
Partner with brokers and stakeholders to ensure robust customs execution and master data integrity across the supply chain
Identify and implement duty optimization, FTA utilization, and origin strategy opportunities
Support customs audits, investigations, and regulatory monitoring (Customs, DGFT, etc.)
Act as a key driver of automation and digitalization, leveraging tools, data lakes, and analytics to scale classification processes
Contribute to global master data strategy, collaborating with international teams (EU and others)
Cooperate closely with Customs Developers, Customs Compliance Managers, and Export Control Managers to identify opportunities to develop and implement master data processes within India and internationally.
This role is not just operational—it is strategic, data-driven, and transformation-focused, enabling next-generation customs compliance.

You will be part of the India Customs & Trade team, working closely with classification experts, compliance managers, and digital/automation stakeholders.
The team operates in a high-performance, cross-functional environment, collaborating with supply chain, IT, brokers, and global Volvo entities to drive standardization, compliance, and digital transformation.

Essential requirements
Strong expertise in customs tariff classification, origin rules, and export control frameworks
Proven experience in customs master data management and governance (HS/ECCN/CoO/FTA)
Hands-on experience in data analysis, root-cause problem solving, and compliance risk management
Exposure to automation tools, digital workflows, or master data platforms
Strong ability to work independently, influence stakeholders, and drive improvements across functions
Must have
Bachelor’s degree in Logistics, International Trade, Engineering, or related field
Formal training in the area and/or 4-8 years’ experience related to Customs Master Data
Certification in HS classification or customs declarant licensing
Experience in bonded warehouse / FTZ / MOOWR or similar duty optimization structures
Exposure to data lake environments, Power BI, SQL, or analytics tools
Experience with classification automation or large-scale digital transformation programs
Knowledge of Volvo Classification system : C4V or SAP platforms like Descartes GDM/MIC
